PM Shehbaz Sharif offered to have dialogue with the opposition, setting clear instructions that the talks should strictly be about legitimate and constructive issues.

He made these remarks during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, on Tuesday. He stated the government have always been open to dialogue and since PTI and its allies are discussing the possibility of talks, he recalled extending such an invitation on the parliament floor as well.

“If they are ready, then the Government of Pakistan is also fully prepared for dialogue,” PM Shehbaz. 

He further said that cooperation between all political parties is essential if economic stability, national progress and public welfare are to be achieved.

Furthermore, he warned that talks cannot be successfully held under pressure of any threats or “blackmailing”, and should be based on constitutional and legitimate matters.

The prime minister’s statement come amid repeated calls for dialogue from opposition. Government remains open to engagement, given that it contributes to democratic stability and the rule of law.
