Heavy rain possible again in Karachi this afternoon and evening: weather expert

Karachi is expected to receive another spell of rain today as the ongoing monsoon system lingers on, weather expert Jawad Memon said on Thursday. 

He predicted that thunderclouds are likely to develop between 12:30pm and 1:00pm with showers expected in the afternoon, evening, and night. He said that some areas may see moderate rainfall while others could face heavy downpours, similar to the conditions witnessed a day earlier.

The expert added that the current system is likely to weaken gradually from Friday, but light to moderate rain may continue for a few more days. However, he cautioned that another stronger monsoon system is forecast to reach Sindh by the end of the month, around August 29–30.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) also predicted moderate rain accompanied by thunder in most parts of Karachi over the next 24 hours, with the possibility of intense showers in certain areas.

The minimum temperature recorded in the city today was 29°C with 81 percent humidity, while winds were blowing from the southeast at a speed of 3 km/h.

The PMD said that Orangi Town received the heaviest level of showers in the last 24 hours at 113 millimetres. Other figures included 43mm at Faisal Base, 36mm in Korangi, 31mm in Keamari, and 28mm at Jinnah Terminal.

University Road and Masroor Base both recorded 24mm, while DHA Phase 2 and the airport old area reported 21mm each. Gulshan-e-Hadeed received 20mm, Nazimabad 19mm, Surjani Town and Saadi Town 16mm each, North Karachi 9mm, and Gulshan-e-Maymar 7mm.
