Groom arrested in Peshawar for tearing down Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman’s picture

A groom was arrested in Peshawar after his video went viral online showing him tearing a picture of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman at his wedding ceremony.  

According to reports, the groom was handed the picture by a friend during the ceremony. He reportedly tore it and threw it onto the stage. The video sparked outrage among supporters of Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, who demanded immediate action against the groom. 

Following the public reaction, police registered a case and arrested the groom. 

KPK MPA, Ilhaj Aijaz Muhammad Khan submitted a detailed written complaint to Dr Miyan Saeed, the Chief Capital Police Officer of the Peshawar zone, expressing strong concern over the incident.

In his complaint, he emphasized that the act does not merely target or offend members of JUI, but deeply impacts the sentiments of the entire Muslim ummah. According to him, the incident has created a wave of anger and resentment among JUI supporters, who view it as a direct act of disrespect.

The MPA further highlighted that such behavior has the potential to disturb social harmony and provoke unrest if left unchecked. He urged the authorities to take strict and exemplary action against the two individuals responsible, stressing that decisive measures are necessary to prevent anyone from committing such acts in the future.
