Govt forms five-member committee to investigate Karachi University students clash

The Sindh government has constituted a five-member high-level inquiry committee to investigate the violent clash between two student groups at the University of Karachi.
The decision was taken after Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards Muhammad Ismail Rahoo ordered a transparent and impartial inquiry into the incident.
According to an official notification, the committee will be headed by Dr Hussain Mehdi, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Lyari, as its convener. The other members of the committee are Dr Ghazanfar, Dr Sarfraz Maitlo, Prof Dr Intikhab Ulfat and Prof Dr Naeema Saeed.
The minister directed the committee to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the incident and identify the individuals and groups responsible for the violence. He also instructed the committee to examine the alleged negligence of the university administration and security personnel at the time of the clash and submit concrete recommendations for legal action against those found responsible.
Rahoo reiterated the Sindh government's commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe and conducive academic environment at universities, saying violence, unrest and violations of the law would not be tolerated in educational institutions.
According to the spokesperson, the inquiry committee has been directed to submit its detailed report and recommendations to the Sindh Universities and Boards Department within 15 days. The University of Karachi administration and all relevant institutions have also been instructed to extend full cooperation to the committee.
