French climber killed while attempting 7,282m peak in GB's Ghanche district

A 40-year-old French mountaineer died after being struck by an avalanche during an expedition to scale K-6 (Baltistan Peak) in the Hushe Valley of Ghanche district of Gilgit Baltistan, according to local officials.
Pierre Guillaume was part of a three-member international expedition attempting to summit the 7,282-metre peak known as Baltistan Peak Six.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred during the ascent when a sudden avalanche of snow and rocks hit the climber, killing him on the spot.
The officials said that rescue teams and local authorities are working to transport the body to the base camp. Efforts are also underway to trace the remaining two members of the expedition, who have not yet returned to base camp.
A search and rescue operation has been launched in the area, involving local police, volunteers, and mountaineering support staff.
