Senior MQM-Pakistan leader Dr. Farooq Sattar has called for the resignation of Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, holding the city administration responsible for failing to drain rainwater after heavy downpours.
During a late-night visit to Surjani Town on Monday, Sattar expressed frustration at the state of Karachi’s streets, remarking that “the claims of local representatives have been washed away.”
Criticizing the mayor, he said: “We can afford the salaries and perks, but we cannot carry the burden of this mayor.”
Sattar also accused major political parties—including the PPP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and PTI—of neglecting Karachi’s rain emergency, questioning how many storm drains had been cleaned before the monsoon season.

The MQM-P leader further appealed to the federal government to reconsider its attitude toward Karachi, suggesting that while the city may not be declared a disaster-hit zone, it should at least be granted tax relief.
He, however, praised Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori for “setting an example” despite lacking resources or public funds, saying the governor had transformed a ceremonial office into a practical role.
