A famous coffee shop in Defence Phase VIII has been issued a notice for unlawfully using the name of a Thailand-based coffee shop.
The original Mondo coffee bar in Phuket, Thailand, publicly stated that the Karachi outlet is not affiliated with their brand.
Syed Muhammad Ali Jafri filed his complaint in a consumer court after visiting the Mondo Coffee Bar in May, believing it was part of the Thailand-based Mondo Espresso & Tea Bar.
Later, he discovered via social media that the cafe was allegedly using the brand name and logo illegally and without permission.
The complaint further stated that the cafe’s cups, bags, and tissue papers carried a logo almost identical to the Thai brand’s registered trademark.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Abdul Ahad Khan argued that this act violated the Sindh Consumer Protection Act, 2015, and amounted to false and misleading advertising.
The complainant is seeking Rs5 million in compensation, alleging that the cafe misled customers and engaged in deceptive business practices.
After a preliminary hearing, the court issued summons to the defendant, directing them to appear on October 31, 2025, either in person or through legal counsel, to respond to the allegations.
