A Field General Court Martial has sentenced former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty on four charges, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.
The ISPR said the court martial process, initiated on August 12, 2024, stretched over 15 months and involved what it described as “lengthy and laborious legal proceedings.”
According to the military’s media wing, Hameed was tried for engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act in a manner “detrimental to the safety and interest of the State,” misuse of authority and government resources, and causing wrongful loss to individuals.
“He has been found guilty on all charges,” the ISPR said, adding that the sentence was formally promulgated on December 11, 2025.
The military maintained that all procedural guarantees were observed. “The Field General Court Martial complied with all legal provisions. The accused was afforded all legal rights, including the right to a defence team of his choice,” the statement said.
The ISPR also said that Hameed retains the right to appeal the conviction at the appropriate forum.
Additionally, the statement hinted at further inquiries, saying, “Involvement of the convict in fomenting vested political agitation and instability in cohorts with political elements and in certain other matters is separately being dealt with."
The conviction is seen as a rare and high-profile case of a former senior intelligence chief being tried and sentenced under the Pakistan Army Act.
