Police have registered a case against K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi and other senior officials after two brothers lost their lives to electrocution during rainfall in the Natha Khan Goth area of Karachi.
According to Shah Faisal Colony police, the FIR was lodged on the complaint of the victims’ father, citing negligence and carelessness on the part of the power utility.
Ten-year-old Sultan and his 20-year-old brother Siraj were electrocuted on Monday. Their funeral prayers were held a day later.
This is not the only incident linked to electrocution during the recent rains.
In another case, a child suffered electric shock after coming into contact with a pole near Shafiq Mor. Bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was discharged after treatment.
Responding to the allegations, a K-Electric spokesperson said the Shafiq Mor incident was caused by a faulty streetlight pole that does not fall under the utility’s jurisdiction.
Rain-related accidents in Karachi claimed 17 lives, including children and a woman.
