The Punjab government has decided to hold organised Basant celebrations across the province in the second week of March next year, expanding the festival beyond Lahore.

According to reports, a plan has been prepared to allow kite manufacturing at designated locations, while measures are being worked out to keep the prices of kites and strings under control.

The government also plans to introduce legislation to regulate the festival, with safety measures and rules for kite-flying to be incorporated into the law, the reports said.

The designated venues and regulations for the province-wide celebrations are expected to be announced soon.

Last month, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had approved a 10-day Basant festival in Lahore from January 29 to February 7, 2027.

According to the government's spokesperson, the celebrations were to be suspended for one day on February 5 to observe Kashmir Day.
