ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan additional time to submit a written response in a case seeking the closure of former prime minister Imran Khan’s X account. During the hearing, Gohar told the court that the party did not claim ownership of the account.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard a petition filed by Ghulam Murtaza. Barrister Gohar appeared before the court in his personal capacity, along with lawyers representing Imran Khan, including Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry and Shamsa Kiyani, as well as officials from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and other parties.
During the proceedings, Justice Tahir told Gohar that he had not been summoned personally and could have submitted a written response instead.
Gohar maintained that PTI did not claim the account in question and requested additional time, saying circumstances had changed and the party would submit a detailed reply.
The court granted the request and adjourned the hearing until November 23, directing the party to submit its position in writing.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Gohar confirmed that the next hearing in the case concerning Imran Khan’s X account had been scheduled for November 23.
He said the party would file its response before the next hearing and had no connection with certain suspicious accounts.
Commenting on the political situation, the PTI chairman said the party had opposed the imposition of emergency and Governor’s Rule at every forum.
He described Governor’s Rule as unlawful and beyond the legal framework, arguing that the circumstances did not justify either measure.
Gohar also criticised the replacement of the bureaucracy and alleged that efforts were being made to eliminate an entire political party, calling such measures contrary to democratic principles.
