Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar has said that a final agreement on the draft for negotiations could not be reached due to what he described as the government’s rigid stance.
Speaking in Swat, Barrister Gohar said the government had not shown seriousness during the negotiations and had not agreed to any of the proposals.
He said the PTI had proposed a meeting between the prime minister and the opposition leader, as well as a joint strategy to counter terrorism.
He added that discussions were also held on developing a unified stance against terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab.
“Negotiations take place even during wars,” Barrister Gohar said, adding that if the government was sincere, it should arrange a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan.
He said the PTI had made sincere efforts to resolve the issues through negotiations, but the government did not agree.
The PTI chairman said the party’s long march had not been called off, adding that the party was peaceful and that peaceful protest was its right. He said there was zero tolerance for terrorism and that terrorism could not be eliminated through Governor’s Rule or an emergency.
Barrister Gohar also demanded that the federal government stop interfering in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He alleged that federal interference had resulted in a weak provincial government and questioned how peace could be restored if the chief secretary and inspector general of police took orders from elsewhere.
He alleged that deputy commissioners in the province were imposing Section 144 on the instructions of others. He also said PTI ministers and MPAs were missing from the province, asking where they had gone. He warned that the government would be responsible if violence broke out.
Barrister Gohar further claimed that PTI had received 20 million votes in Punjab but that its mandate had been stolen. He said 76 MNAs, 25 senators and 197 MPAs from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would boycott proceedings.
