Bahawalpur teenager who sought AI help to poison father sent to jail

A 17-year-old boy, who allegedly tried to poison his father, has been sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand after the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) informed a Lahore court that his physical custody was no longer needed.

The teenager was produced before Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo on Wednesday on expiry of his three-day remand in police custody.

The investigating officer told the court that the suspect’s father had no objection. He also said the teenager was the couple’s only son and a second-year student in Bahawalpur. According to the officer, the father told investigators that his son had an interest in conducting different types of research.

With no further physical custody required, the magistrate ordered that the teenager be sent to jail on judicial remand and directed the investigating officer to submit the charge-sheet within the required period.

The NCCIA arrested the teenager on September 23 following an investigation into an alleged attempt to poison his father. The agency said that the teenager had developed strained relations with his father after a disagreement and allegedly decided to kill him.

Investigators said the teenager had become interested in chemistry after watching the crime drama Breaking Bad. He allegedly set up a small laboratory at home and carried out chemical experiments, according to the NCCIA spokesperson.
