The Islamabad administration has announced a public holiday on August 13, Wednesday, ahead of the country's Independence Day celebrations on August 14.

All government and private institutions in the federal capital will remain closed on both days, except for essential administrative and emergency services, according to a notification.

This will allow residents to enjoy two-day holiday.

"It is notified that 13th August, 2025 (Wednesday), is hereby declared as Local Holiday within the revenue limits of Islamabad Capital Territory except the offices of essential services in Islamabad including MCI, CDA, ICT Administration, ICT Police, IESCO, SNGPL and Hospitals," read the notification issued by District Magistrate Irfan Nawaz Memon.

Meanwhile, four holidays are expected this week. According to a notification of the Cabinet Division, August 14th will be observed as a public holiday nationwide.

Furthermore, the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), falling on Friday, August 15, is not included in the federal holidays.

However, provincial authorities may announce local holidays for Chehlum in relevant areas. If this happens, holidays could be extended from Thursday, August 14 until Sunday, August 17.
