Aleema provided clothes, other essential items in jail, LHC told

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday disposed of a petition seeking facilities for PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan after the Punjab government submitted a report on her condition in jail.

The report, presented on behalf of the Kot Lakhpat jail superintendent, said that Aleema has been provided basic necessities during her detention.

According to Assistant Advocate General Farrukh Khan Lodhi, the jail authorities gave her a bedsheet, blanket, shoes, six suits and a towel. She was also provided face wash, a toothbrush, skincare items and a shawl.

Justice Abher Gul Khan disposed of the petition after taking the government’s report on record.

The judge also directed the home secretary to decide according to law on a request by Aleema’s son, Shahrez Khan, seeking permission to meet his mother.

Aleema was detained on Sept 20 under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance following an order issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner.

The petition had been filed by Shahrez after concerns were raised about his mother’s access to medicines and other essential items in jail.
