YouTuber Iqra Kanwal to skip NCCIA appearance due to pregnancy

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned YouTuber Iqra Kanwal for questioning about the alleged promotion of gambling applications through social media.

The inquiry into Kanwal’s alleged role began on August 28, after which she was served two notices. She faces accusations similar to those levelled against several other YouTubers, including Saadur Rehman, popularly known as Ducky Bhai, and Mudassar Hassan.

Both were recently taken into custody for allegedly promoting gambling apps and encouraging investments in unregulated schemes.

In the latest round of notices, Kanwal, along with YouTubers Rajab Butt and Muhammad Anas, has been directed to appear before investigators at the NCCIA’s Lahore office on September 9. The agency warned that failure to appear would be considered as having no defence to present.

Kanwal has filed a written reply through her counsel, Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq. In her statement, she said she is expecting a child and is unable to appear in person due to medical reasons.

“In this condition, she can’t appear before the NCCIA,” her response stated, noting that doctors have advised at least two months of rest and recovery following childbirth. The reply further said that Kanwal was prepared to “fully cooperate with the investigation and provide all necessary records” once she regains her health.
