Renowned television host and comedian Tabish Hashmi revealed that he was once 'abducted' by workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Karachi, an ordeal he described as terrifying but unforgettable.

Speaking during a recent show, Hashmi clarified that while many had assumed him to be an MQM supporter, he had in fact been a victim of violence at the hands of the party. He also denied ever being associated with MQM-Pakistan.

Sharing the incident, Hashmi said it took place during his university’s annual dinner, where he was initially set to host the event. At the last moment, he was barred from hosting and even told not to attend. Later, he was allowed to join the event but instructed not to come on stage.

When his name was eventually announced for a “role of honour,” Hashmi attempted to reach the stage. At that point, MQM workers reportedly seized him and forcibly took him away from the venue.

“They picked me up in an old FX car that was already cramped. There were four men inside, and I was suffocating,” Hashmi recalled. He said the abductors threatened him with guns, pointing weapons at him, and warned that they could kill him and dispose of his body.

Convinced that he would not survive, Hashmi described the incident as one of the most terrifying moments of his life.

“I thought my life was over," Tabish said, adding that after holding him for several hours, the abductors took him at a deserted spot near the Super Highway, before dropping him back at his university dinner with a warning not to step on stage again.

Despite the ordeal, Hashmi shared the memory with his trademark wit, though he admitted at the time he was certain his life would end that night.
