Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Oscar-winning filmmaker and journalist Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to explore the future of film, culture, and media development in the province.
Welcoming the internationally recognised director, Maryam Nawaz commended Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for her remarkable achievements and her compelling use of documentary filmmaking to shed light on critical social issues.
She described her work as both influential and inspiring, highlighting its role in drawing global attention to pressing human concerns.
The meeting also focused on detailed discussions surrounding the proposed Punjab Film City, which is set to be developed within the Nawaz Sharif IT City.
The chief minister outlined her vision of establishing Pakistan’s first fully integrated, end-to-end media production hub.
The planned facility is expected to provide a wide range of services, including film and television production, digital media, visual effects, and post-production capabilities.
Maryam Nawaz further shared that the film city will include state-of-the-art studios, advanced sound stages, post-production labs, and dedicated filming locations.
A purpose-built lake is also part of the design to enhance visual storytelling and production quality.
Additionally, the project will feature a convention centre, a media trade hub, and specialised institutions for film and music education, aimed at fostering emerging talent and strengthening Pakistan’s creative industry.
