Renowned folk singer Sanam Marvi has revealed that she faces harsh criticism whenever she performs a sacred pilgrimage such as Hajj and Umrah, due to her association with the music and entertainment industry.

Speaking during a recent appearance on a private TV channel, Marvi opened up about the social media backlash she receives from some segments of the public. The singer said she is often targeted for her religious observance, despite her profession.

She said whenever she went for Hajj or Umrah, people criticised her and made negative comments online.

"Some say she has been singing songs all year, and now she is performing religious rituals. Others say she will return from Umrah and go back to singing again."

Marvi, known for her soulful renditions in Sufi and folk music, emphasised that music is her profession and source of livelihood. Why don’t the critics understand that this is our profession?

Despite the negativity, Marvi chooses not to respond to the trolling, stating that she thinks it’s better to remain silent. "They don’t understand how much dedication is put into our work," the Kardo Karam singer said.

Sanam Marvi has been a prominent figure in Pakistan’s music scene for years, and her comments shed light on the wider challenges faced by artists who balance professional careers in showbiz with their personal faith.
