Namal Khawar hits back at online body-shamers

KARACHI: Former Pakistani actress and wife of actor Hamza Ali Abbasi, Namal Khawar, has hit back at social media users and pages commenting on her weight and speculating about her pregnancy.

Recently, Namal shared several pictures from an event on her social media account. After the pictures went viral, several social media pages reposted them and speculated that she might be pregnant.

Responding to the speculation, the former actress took to her Instagram Story and issued a strong response to those commenting on her appearance.

“It is surprising how people feel no hesitation when commenting on women’s bodies. Yes, my weight may have changed,” Namal wrote.

She said it was possible that she no longer looked the way she did five years ago, adding that motherhood can bring about changes in a woman that are difficult to imagine.

Namal further pointed out that factors including age, hormones, stress, health, lifestyle and pregnancy can contribute to changes in a woman’s body.

“None of these reasons gives anyone the right to publicly criticise a woman’s body or weight,” she said.
