Meera appeals for UK visa to see sister battling cancer

Pakistani actor Meera has appealed to the British authorities for visa to travel to London to visit her sister Shahista Abbas, who is suffering from advanced-stage cancer.

Meera made the appeal in a video shared on social media while speaking from New York. She addressed British officials and authorities in Pakistan and London, asking them to consider her situation and facilitate her travel.

She said that her sister’s health has worsened and she wants to reach London during what she described as a difficult period for her family. She said that her mother, Shafqat Zahra Bukhari, and younger brother, Saeed Hussain Abbas, are already in London with Shahista.

Meera requested that her visa case be considered on humanitarian grounds because of her sister’s condition. She said she urgently wanted to see her and spend time with her family.

The actor also named British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott in her appeal, asking them to help with her request.

Meera has previously faced reported problems obtaining visa to travel to the UK. Several members of her family are British nationals.
