Indian singer Lucky Ali called out controversial lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar for making anti-Muslim remarks in an old interview that has recently resurfaced on social media.

In the viral clip, Javed Akhtar can be seen addressing an audience where he claimed that “Hindus have become like Muslims,” attempting to portray Muslims as intolerant. He further urged Hindus “not to become like Muslims” and to “make them like yourself.”

Akhtar was initially discussing the growing intolerance toward art and creativity in India. He referenced a scene from his iconic Bollywood film Sholay, explaining how actor Dharmendra spoke to a Hindu deity, which actress Hema Malini thought as the god speaking back.

Akhtar noted that such scenes could no longer be written today due to rising religious sensitivities.

However, while attempting to criticize the lack of artistic freedom, Akhtar’s comments veered toward targeting Muslims, undermining his own argument about tolerance.

Responding to the resurfaced clip, Lucky Ali issued a strong rebuke on X, condemning Akhtar’s “Islamophobic” tone and calling him out for hypocrisy.

“Don’t become like Javed Akhtar, never original and ugly as f***,” the O Sanam singer wrote.
