Court documents filed in a High Court defamation case in London have brought to light a series of allegations against former boxing world champion Amir Khan and his wife, Faryal Makhdoom.
The couple launched legal proceedings in 2023 against women’s rights campaigner Faryaal Hussain after she publicly shared allegations made by several women concerning Khan’s alleged conduct.
The claims were circulated through social media posts, a podcast interview and an online petition that raised concerns about what Hussain described as the exploitation of women.
Khan and Makhdoom are seeking damages of up to £100,000, along with an injunction to prevent the publication of further allegations.
They contend that Hussain’s statements caused significant reputational damage, financial losses and contributed to the BBC’s decision not to proceed with a fourth series of their reality television programme, “Meet The Khans”.
In her defence, Hussain denies defamation and maintains that her statements were both true and made in the public interest. A 21-page defence document, now part of the public court record, outlines accounts from five women.
One woman, identified in the filing as Woman A, alleges that Khan contacted her via Instagram in May 2023, offering financial assistance and inviting her to travel to Dubai. She claims that after refusing requests to send intimate images, she received comments that she interpreted as threatening.
A second woman, referred to as Woman B, alleges that Khan initiated contact through Snapchat in 2022 and later communicated with her across several social media platforms.
The defence filing further alleges that Khan arranged travel for her to Dubai and, during an alleged encounter, recorded intimate footage without her knowledge or consent. The documents also claim that threats were later made to prevent her from speaking publicly about the matter.
The defence papers additionally contain allegations concerning Makhdoom’s interactions with some of the women. According to the filing, audio recordings submitted as evidence include alleged threats and abusive remarks directed towards Woman B and members of her family.
Khan has previously acknowledged personal misconduct in public statements and said he was prepared to seek professional support. However, both Khan and Makhdoom strongly deny all allegations contained within the defence filing, describing them as false, defamatory and malicious.
Representatives for both parties have declined to comment further on the ongoing proceedings. No trial date has yet been scheduled by the High Court.
As the matter remains before the courts, the allegations outlined in the defence documents have not been proven, and the case is yet to be determined.
