Renowned Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari has shared that her first marriage was a modest affair as it cost only Rs1,000 in 1978.
The veteran star shared this during a special Independence Day television programme hosted by Nida Yasir, featuring Faysal Quraishi and Yasir Hussain, where the discussion focused on promoting modesty and simplicity in weddings.
Recalling her wedding in 1978, Bushra Ansari revealed that her first husband, Iqbal Ansari, was a government employee earning a monthly salary of Rs1,200 at the time.
She said her ex-husband wanted to sell his car to buy jewellery for her, “but my father stopped him from doing so. Later, when he thought of taking a loan for a valima, his father also disapproved.”

Bushra shared that the marriage ceremony was completed in a simple outfit and a purse, with no lavish event or expensive jewellery involved.
“My parents gave me dowry as per tradition, but there was no financial burden on my husband, and we started our life without any debt,” she said.
Actress emphasised that the new generation should rethink the modern-day obsession with extravagant weddings, adding, "Today, most young people consider marriage a milestone to be celebrated with grandeur. But I believe marriage should be done with simplicity, focusing on relationships rather than expenses,” she advised.
Bushra Ansari married producer Iqbal Ansari in 1978, and the couple had two daughters together, Nariman Ansari and Meera Ansari. After 36 years of marriage, the two separated. In May 2023, Bushra Ansari publicly confirmed her second marriage.
