The Ministry of Maritime Affairs has decided to allocate a jetty at Port Qasim to a Chinese company for the construction of a world-class shipyard, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to local media, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said that the decision to provide a ready jetty at Port Qasim to the Chinese firm had been finalised as part of efforts to expand Pakistan’s shipbuilding capacity.
The minister stated that the proposed shipyard will have the capacity to build six ships annually, significantly boosting the country’s maritime production potential. He added that Pakistan will make payments in local currency (Pakistani rupees) for the shipbuilding work.
Chaudhry further revealed that the government is also identifying a location for a second shipyard, as part of a broader plan to enhance the nation’s maritime infrastructure and industrial capabilities.
