The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for tax year 2026 by another 16 days, setting October 31 as the new cut-off date.

The extension applies to taxpayers who were required to file their returns by September 30 and whose deadline had previously been extended to October 15.

In a notification posted on its official X account, the FBR said the decision was taken under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, following requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations.

The board had earlier extended the original September 30 deadline to October 15.

Trade bodies and tax professionals called for more time, citing delays in the availability of return forms and heavy traffic on the online filing system, which they said had made it difficult for taxpayers to submit returns before the deadline.
