Demonstrators expressing support for Palestine raised three Palestinian flags atop Harvard University Hall on Saturday evening, prompting university authorities to threaten disciplinary action against them.

The protesters unfurled the flags near the John Harvard statue, which is typically reserved for the American flag or flags of visiting dignitaries. Harvard University Police were notified and began the process of removing the flags at 6:34 p.m., contacting Harvard Yard Operations for assistance.

As the flags were being taken down, protesters voiced their dissatisfaction with chants of "Shame!" and slogans such as "Free, free Palestine" and "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." The flags were ultimately removed by a campus services staff member accompanied by two HUPD officers, amidst continued vocal protests from the demonstrators.

After the flag incident, protesters willing to have their Harvard University IDs recorded gathered inside the encampment, while others showed solidarity outside the designated area. Chants echoed as protesters declared, "Harvard, Harvard take my ID. You can’t really scare me."

Following the flag-raising and removal, a vigil was held to honor Palestinians killed in the conflict. Participants sat silently around the John Harvard statue, observing a solemn moment amidst the ongoing tension.

Since Thursday, administrators have been conducting daily ID checks on protesters, increasing scrutiny on the encampment. After administrative personnel left, protesters held a group meeting within the encampment grounds.
