World Oceans Day being celebrated worldwide

Today (Monday), World Oceans Day is celebrated globally to highlight the significance of oceans and to promote awareness for the sustainable use of oceans and marine resources.

The theme celebrated this year is, ‘Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean’.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi said in his message on the eve of the day that oceans are an essential component of the earth ‘s ecosystem, and that sustainable oceans are critical to sustaining life on earth.

The Naval Chief said the Pakistan Navy plays a leading role in promoting safe and sustainable ocean resource utilization. He said Pakistan Navy will continue to play an important role in the global and national efforts to protect and preserve the oceans, reaffirming commitment and resolve to preserve the sustainable use of oceans and marine resources.

He said today is the day to join hands and pledge to coordinate efforts to protect our oceans from diverse threats.
