World Environment Day is being observed across the world today to raise awareness about environment and importance of conserving the planet.
For the first time, Pakistan will host World Environment Day 2021 with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), on June 5.
Taking it to Twitter, Senator Faisal Javed stated “preparations in full swing as Pakistan to host #WorldEnvironmentDay today insha’ALLAH. Theme for this year is “Ecosystem Restoration’.
“PM Imran Khan will be leading the conference. This is the first time in history that Pakistan will officially host this day” he further added.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, Pope Francis, and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be a part of the conference.
Moreover, the conference will discuss climate change, 10 Billion Trees Tsunami Programme, Clean Green Pakistan, the Electric Vehicle Policy, National Parks, and Green jobs.
Earlier, in 2020, China hosted the international conference on World Environment Day.
The World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
