Work begins on electric bus project in Islamabad

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has said that by December this year, Islamabad will be the first city in Pakistan where people will be able to travel in electric eco-friendly buses.
After the signing ceremony of the Strategic Alliance Agreement between the Government of Pakistan and the German company, Fawad Chaudhry said that the company would invest in three phases.
Installation of bus manufacturing plants, bus operation, and transfer of technology to Pakistan will be the responsibility of the German company.
The Minister for Science and Technology said that the introduction of electric bus technology was in line with the government’s policy to prevent environmental pollution.
He said that after the introduction of electric vehicle charging stations in Islamabad, the government has decided to install EV charging stations on motorways across the country in the next six months.
The Federal Minister further said that the introduction of electric vehicles would reduce the effects of global warming.
Fawad Chaudhry said that the government of Pakistan was making serious efforts to further improve the energy sector.
In a tweet, Fawad Chaudhry said that the plan for 38 electric buses in Islamabad has now reached the level of EOI.
The next major project, inshallah, is an electric automatic train from Islamabad Airport to Murree, the study of which has begun. A meeting has also been held with the Planning Ministry regarding electric automatic train to Murree in this regard.
