Woman killed in building collapse incident in Karachi’s Lyari area

KARACHI: At least one woman was killed and 12 others were injured when a six-storey residential building collapsed in Karachi’s Lyari area.
Rescue operation is underway to recover other people from the debris in Khadda Market, Lyari. Rescue officials said they feared that more people were trapped under the rubble. An eyewitness said that most of the residents had come out of the building as soon as it tilted.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah telephoned the Karachi commissioner and directed him to immediately reach at the site of the incident and leave no stone unturned in rescue activities.
Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhter said that 250 buildings existed in the metropolis in dilapidated condition and it was the responsibility of the Sindh government to get them vacated. He said the Sindh government had the list of the dilapidated buildings.
It may be noted that it is third incident of building collapse in last six months in Karachi, however the work on illegal construction of buildings could not be halted yet.
