FAISALABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said that after learning from the experiences of past, the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government was going to introduce such a local government system that would be the best in Pakistan.
“It is a government’s responsibility to provide facilities to citizens,” said PM Imran while addressing a gathering of exporters and other business community members in Faisalabad.
He said cities like New York, Paris and London were run like a country was run. All the cities had their own elected mayor and cabinet members, he said adding that through such a system issues of a city like London were resolved within the city.
“Mayor will not be selected through elections of union councils. A mayor would be elected directly through people’s votes. Then he will choose his team which will include educationists, experts of water issues, and others which will make the city a self-sustaining place which would be able to generate revenue for itself,” he said giving out his plan for the local bodies system.
On economic situation, the prime minister said the situation had improved to a great extent after they faced staggeringly trying time when his party came into power as the country was facing unprecedented trade deficit.
“Soon the time will come when Faisalabad will leave Manchester behind. Our job is to help industry so that more opportunities are created. Our decisions during the first wave of pandemic were right because we had to protect economy as well as people simultaneously,” he said.
PM Imran asked those who earned legal profit to pay taxes as well. He also agreed with the idea of establishment of a High Court bench in Faisalabad.
