WhatsApp Messenger has been stopped on devices running older operating systems around the world.

Those who currently use Gingerbread and older versions of Apple iOS 8 and Android 2.3.7 will, unfortunately, not be able to continue using the app.

According to distribution figures from Google, 0.3 per cent of the world’s 2.5 billion users are still on or before Android Gingerbread.

The messaging service does this to ensure consumer health, however, as users using older devices have no choice but to change their smartphone because it is no longer compatible with WhatsApp.
