‘We will not allow Mahira Khan to work here,’ warns Indian nationalist party
A Mumbai-based nationalist party, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), has said that it will not allow Mahira Khan or any other Pakistani artist to work in India.
The reaction came after the Pakistani actress took up Zee Theatre project — a web series titled as Yaar Julahay which is based on dramatic readings of the works of legendary Urdu writers.
According to the Times of India, President of MNS Cinema Wing Ameya Khopkar stated: “We will not allow Mahira Khan or any other Pakistani artists to work here be it Maharashtra or in any part of the country.”
Meanwhile, other Pakistani artists: Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, Fawad Khan, Nimrah Bucha, Sarwat Gillani, Faisal Qureshi, Irfan Khoosat, Sania Saeed, Samiya Mumtaz and Yasra Rizvi are also starring in the drama series.
In a recent interview, Mahira Khan said that several Indian filmmakers had approached her in the past but she did not take the offers “out of fear”.
“I feel like a great opportunity for the entire subcontinent to come together and collaborate was lost.” she added.
In 2019. the All India Cine Workers Association banned Pakistani artists from working in Indian film industry after the Pulwama terror attack.
The MNS is a far-right and nationalists political party, led by Raj Thackery — nephew of Bal Thackery, which split from notorious Shiv Sena.
