Water of 22 brands declared unsafe in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Council of Research In Water Resources (PCRWR) has confirmed that water of 22 brands selling water in Pakistan is not potable.
The government has directed that water of the brands should be checked every three months and their results should be made public.
180 samples of these brands were obtained from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Karachi, Tando Jam, Badin, Quetta, Loralai, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Mianwali, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit.

After testing the samples, the PCRWR revealed that there were 22 brands whose water is unsafe for human life.
According to the standards of the control authority, the amount of arsenic in drinking water should be 10 micrograms per liter, while the amount of arsenic found in those 22 brands was up to 24 micrograms per liter.
The amount of sodium in water should be 50 mg per liter. While, one liter of water bottle should contain 500 mg of TDS.
There are also 15 brands such as Pure, Hunza, Hydride, Blue Plus, Sunley, Aqua King, Spring Fresh Life, UFP Edge, Doro, Dropes, Puree Kana, Drops, Best Natural and Alberka Water which have been declared unsafe because of excessive quantity of sodium from 60 to 165 mg per liter.
