Vietnam detects new COVID variant which is hybrid of UK, India strains
A new and dangerous variant of coronavirus has been detected in Vietnam, while the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that more new variants of COVID-19 may surface in the world.
According to details shared by Reuter’s news agency, the health experts believe that the new variant came into being through combination of Indian and UK strains as it has characteristics of both. The report said that the ratio of spread of the new variant is alarmingly high.
After multiplication of COVID cases in Vietnam, strict coronavirus restrictions have been imposed in its business hub Ho Chi Minh City for two weeks.
The WHO said that its experts were working with the Vietnam’s health ministry to research on the new variant and soon the information in this regard would be made public.
Vietnam had been commended for its strict regulations and screening at airports to contain the virus. However, most of the cases of the viral infection have been reported in the last two months.
