At least seven people, including the prime suspect Usman Mirza, were indicted in Islamabad harassment case, it emerged on Tuesday.
Additional Session Judge Ata Rabbani indicted all the suspects involved in intimidating and harassing a couple inside a hotel room in the capital two months ago.
Hafiz Ataur Rehman, Farhan Shaheen, Adaras Qayyum Butt, Rehan Hassan Mughal, Umar Bilal and Mohib Bangash are among the six other suspects.
Rejecting the bail appeals of three suspects, Islamabad High Court directed the authorities to complete Usman Mirza’s trial case in two months. Earlier, a police report had been submitted to the court, sharing the accounts of the assault.
The police report stated that the suspects led by Mirza tortured the couple and forced them to perform indecent acts while they were filming the victims.
According to the victim’s statement recorded in front of the magistrate, Usman Mirza and the other suspects threatened to gang-rape her if she did not have sex with her friend.
The victim further added she was forced to perform a nude dance in front of Usman and his accomplices, adding that she was beaten up when she refused. The suspects also blackmailed the couple and extorted a sum of Rs1.12 million from the man on different occasions.
Earlier, in July, some videos and photos had gone viral on social media which showed that a woman along with her male companion was manhandled and sexually assaulted by a group of men.
Later it was reported that the couple had tied the knot. A video had been circulated on social media in which SSP Investigation Islamabad Atta ur Rehman was seen consoling the families of the victims. The SSP had also announced their marriage in the video message.
It is relevant to note that another Rawalpindi-based woman has made similar allegations against Usman Mirza.
