After killing six people at his girlfriend’s birthday party in Colorado on Sunday, a man shot himself to death.
However, the assailant spared the children who were present at the party. Police arrived at the scene and found six people dead. The seventh, who was seriously wounded, died after being taken to a hospital.
The Colorado Springs Police Department said in a statement: “The suspect, a boyfriend of one of the female victims, drove to the residence, walked inside and began shooting people at the party before taking his own life.”
The statement added that the police were still investigating to determine a motive.
The United States has recently reported similar cases of mass shootings before the birthday party incident. President Joe Biden last month branded gun violence an “epidemic” and an “international embarrassment” for the US.
In 2020, more than 43,000 people died in the US due to gun violence, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
