US congresswoman Ilhan Omar arrives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Muslim member of US Congress Ilhan Omar has reached Pakistan on Wednesday.
According to sources, DG Foreign Affairs of the United States Muhammad Mudassir Tipu received Ilhan Omar.
Sources said that Ilhan Omar will have important meetings with the political and military leadership today. Ilhan Omar will also visit Azad Kashmir and Lahore.
Who is Ilhan Omar?
Ilhan Omar’s family sought political asylum in the United States in 1995 to escape the Somali civil war, when Ilhan was 13 years old.
In 2000, at the age of 17, Ilhan was granted US citizenship. She received her higher education in Political Science and International Studies. Ilhan became the first Somali-American Member of Parliament to win a seat in the House of Representatives from Minnesota in 2017.
She is also the first US Congresswoman to wear the hijab. She is one of the leading human rights activists in the United States, protesting against Islamophobia at all levels and raising her voice against racial discrimination against all minorities, including blacks.
She gained worldwide popularity for her strong opposition to the biased statements of former US President Donald Trump and her strong response to the ongoing Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.
However, Ilhan Omar has also faced strong criticism and social media trolling for making statements against the Indian media, Israeli lobby and Zionism.
