UN urges Israel to drop plans to annex parts of West Bank
UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations has urged Israel to drop plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
UN Special Middle East envoy Nickolay Mladenov during a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York, said that such plan is a serious violation of international law that will also close the door of renewal of negotiations.
In response to the United States’ Peace Plan for the Middle East, the Foreign Office on Jan 29 had said Pakistan supported a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel, as enshrined in the relevant Security Council and General Assembly Resolutions.
Pakistan continues to support a just and lasting solution of the Palestinian issue, through dialogue and negotiations, that leads to the realization of the legitimate rights of the Palestinians, including the right of self-determination, the FO had said.
“We renew our call for the establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous State of Palestine, on the basis of internationally-agreed parameters, the pre-1967 borders, and with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital,” it had said.
