UN appoints PM Shehbaz as Vice-Chairman of climate conference

The United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP-27) on Monday appointed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the vice-chairman of the conference.

Among the 195 countries of the United Nations, Pakistan has received this honor for voicing climate change issues at global and regional forums.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi also invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to co-chair the meeting of the COP-27. The meeting will be held in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt, from November 6 to 18.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre and President of Egypt El-Sisi will co-chair the round table conference. The meeting will be attended by world leaders, heads of governments, international financial institutions and think tanks.

After the recent floods, PM Shehbaz raised the issue at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of States meeting and the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
