Ukraine, Iran deny reports of hijacking of plane from Afghanistan
Rumours seem to have started circulating in a bid to dampen the spirit of the Taliban government, but Ukraine and Iran both have denied the media reports of hijacking of a Ukrainian evacuation plane from Afghanistan.
According to media reports, Ukrainian deputy foreign minister Yevgeny Yenin had claimed that the evacuation plane had been hijacked while on the mission of evacuation of its people from Kabul airport. Russia’s Tass news agency had reported that the plane was forced by unidentified armed passengers to fly into Iran.
The Iranian Civil Aviation Authority said that the aircraft landed at Mashhad airport for refueling and then flew back to Ukraine.
Ukrainian news agency RBC also confirmed that the spokesperson of the foreign ministry Oleg Nikolenko had said that no plane was seized neither in Kabul nor anywhere else. He said that the news circulating on social media was false.
Nikolenko said the deputy foreign minister was trying to explain that they were facing unprecedented issues in the country.
