Two women were murdered by their husbands in Lodhran after they refused to bring their parents further dowries, police said.
Aasma, a mother of two, was killed by her husband after the Rs500,000 that he requested a few months ago was not given to the man by his father.
“We married her off in 2016,” the woman’s father told local media sources.
The father said his son-in-law was demanding money even after giving her dowry to their daughter at the time of her marriage.
The police said his husband and brother-in-law were apprehended.
Her husband killed Erum, another woman in Lodhran, after her parents refused to buy a house for the son-in-law.
Mother Erum said her son-in-law used to beat her daughter regularly. “She had two daughters, and had another brother.”
Rights activists say hundreds of those killings are recorded every year in Lodhran. A human rights activist told media sources that for her rights, women still do not go to the courts or police stations.
He said the government needed to start campaigns to educate women on their rights.
