Twitter Inc. on Tuesday became the first major tech corporation to require permanent work to be done by workers who can operate remotely, as the coronavirus epidemic causes dramatic changes in work culture around the world.
The pandemic, which has affected more than 4.2 million people worldwide so far, has led to strict lockdowns in most countries and has changed the way business operates, with work-from-home emerging as the new standard.
The social media company said that most offices will not be re-opened before September, and staff will choose whether or not to come to the facilities and when. Buzzfeed first mentioned the move on Twitter.
Tech giants such as Facebook Inc and Google’s Alphabet Inc have allowed the majority of their workers to work remotely until the end of this year.
