WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump portrayed his Democratic rivals as pro-Iranian stooges on Monday, and retweeted a fake picture of two leading Muslim garb party leaders.

Trump’s latest attack on Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer and Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi followed criticism of his ordering a deadly drone strike against a top Iranian general, Qasem Soleimani.

“Anything I do, whether it’s the economy, military, or anything else, will be scorned by the Rafical Left, Do Nothing Democrats!” Trump fumed on Twitter, misspelling “Radical.”

Earlier, a photoshopped image showing Pelosi in a hijab and Schumer sporting a turban was retweeted.

Soleimani’s killing by the US near the airport in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, has stoked fears of war across the region.

Trump insists that to prevent an impending attack on four US embassies, Soleimani had to be killed.

Senior officials have given various accounts, however, leading Democrats to question the entire episode that falls near Trump’s Senate impeachment trial.

Trump claimed the Democrats in his Monday tweets, and what he called “the Fake News” media were “trying to make terrorist Soleimani a great person, just because I’ve done what was supposed to be done for 20 years.”

Responding to criticism that he was rash in ordering Soleimani’s killing — by some, the second most important person in the Iranian government as a whole — Trump again insisted that an imminent threat had emerged.

But he also hedged his remarks, adding that Soleimani’s past justified the move, even without such a high-profile assault involving an immediate threat.

“The Fake News Media and their Democrat Partners are working hard to determine whether or not the future attack by terrorist Soleimani was ’eminent’ or not, & was my team in agreement,” Trump tweeted, misspelling “imminent.”

“The answer to both is a strong YES., but it doesn’t really matter because of his horrible past!”

Trump told a reelection campaign rally last week that in cases like Soleimani’s killing, Pelosi and other Democrats can not be trusted with classified information.
