WASHINGTON: The US House of Representatives has impeached the incumbent president Donald Trump for the second time on Wednesday. The US Senate is going to decide his conviction now.
The country’s legislators passed an impeachment resolution which holds Trump responsible for riots after his supporters stormed the US capitol on January 6. The incident claimed five lives.
The US house voted 232-197 to make Trump the only US President to be impeached twice. Last time Trump was impeached in December 2019 but later acquitted by the Senate and remained in the office of President of the United States
Trump will become the first ever US President to be removed from the office if the Senate convicts him.
Earlier three US president had faced impeachment: Donald Trump (2019), Bill Clinton (1998) and Andrew Johnson (1868), but all of them had been acquitted by the Senate.
