Train operations likely to resume from May 10
The Railway Ministry has arranged for 30 special trains to be run from May 10.
Train service will be partly resumed after lockdown easing according to sources. The final decision will be taken on May 8 after Prime Minister Imran Khan has obtained his approval.
Sources said a review of the partial resumption of train service from May 10 was prepared by the Railways Ministry.
The ministry released a letter about resumption of train service to Lahore Railway headquarters.
From 10 May, the inter-provincial train service will partially resume.
There will be 28 to 30 special trains operating on main line in the first phase. Railway headquarters must complete arrangements before train operations resume. Other matters will be completed including leasing, anti-corona arrangements.
Tickets will only be provided through online booking. The railway administration operates the train on a reservation of 50 per cent.
It should be noted that, from the budget, Railway Ministry has demanded Rs2 billion a month to cover Pakistan Railways’ expanses until the end of the year.
Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed told the international media outlet “We will not be able to pay salaries of Pakistan Railways staff in the month of July as we have money till June only. We urgently need Rs5 billion to pay the salaries and other expenses in July 2020.”
