Trade activities of less than 10 billion rupees took place this Eid in Karachi

KARACHI: Chairman All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Ateeq Mir on Thursday said that trade activities of less than 10 billion rupees took place on the occasion of this Eid-ul-Fitr because of coronavirus lockdown in the megalopolis.
In a statement, Ateeq Mir said that the ease in lockdown could not be productive as there was low number of buying customers who visited markets. He said trade activities took place for 10 days, between May 11 and May 23. He said about 80 percent of shopping was done on kids’ clothes, shoes, purses and toys.

He said that last year trade activities worth Rs35 billion had taken place on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr.
It may be noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced to ease lockdown across the country from May 9 onwards. Following the orders, the Sindh government had announced to ease lockdown from May 11 by allowing markets to open from Monday to Thursday. Later, the Supreme Court through a notification ordered to open markets throughout the week.
