Top court stops FIA from probe into Peshawar BRT project

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday stopped the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from investigation into the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit project to find out misappropriation of funds.
The three-member bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial was hearing the plea filed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government against the Peshawar High Court’s November 2019 verdict. The PHC had ordered the FIA to hold inquiry into the BRT project.
The counsel of the provincial government said the PHC had given the order for which the complainant had not even asked for.

The top court has asked for providing details of the project including its initial cost, the date when this project was started and first date for completion of the project.
The lawyer said the new date for completion of the Peshawar BRT was July 31, 2020.
The Supreme Court in its verdict has stopped the investigation agency from probe into the project.
An underpass of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit project is likely to collapse due to use of flawed material.
Sources have said that roof of Gul Bahar underpass is at the risk of collapsing because of seepage of water from the sewerage line. The sewerage water has started accumulating on different places in the underpass.
