 Tomato prices in Karachi to drop from today

KARACHI: Tomato prices will be dropping from today, as Pakistan will be importing tomatoes for Iran to manage the shortage in Karachi.

Earlier the week, tomato prices were shot up to Rs 300 per kilo in Karachi after its shortage due to rain in Sindh and Balochistan. The rain destroyed the tomato crop.

The problem became a hot topic as consumers were horrified by the prices. The government has granted seven companies in Quetta permits to import 4,500 tons of tomatoes from Iran now.

The Fruit and Vegetable Association confirmed that the permits have been issued. Iranian tomatoes will begin entering the market from today and prices are expected to drop
